Confirmed: Arsenal sign Chelsea star Kai Havertz for £65m; shirt number revealed and Arteta…

The Gunners have ambitious plans for the transfer window and Mikel Arteta will no doubt be pleased to get the deal for the Germany international done.

Havertz has shown that he can be a quality player on his day. So, it will be interesting to see how he performs for Arsenal next season.

Overall, the 24-year-old made 139 appearances for Chelsea. In the process, he scored 32 goals and made 15 assists.

He also played a key role in a very successful 2020/21 season under Thomas Tuchel, when the Blues won the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Now, Arteta will be hoping Havertz can have a similar impact at the Emirates next season, as they prepare for their own Champions League campaign.

Indeed, Arsenal’s transfer business is far from finished and they are definitely a team to watch over the next few days.

Havertz: ‘My aim is to win trophies’
In an interview with the official Arsenal website, Arteta has given his reaction to Havertz joining Arsenal.

Arteta said: “Kai is a player of top quality. He has great versatility and is an intelligent player. He will bring a huge amount of extra strength to our midfield and variety to our play.

“We welcome Kai and his family to Arsenal Football Club and we are all excited to start working with him when we start pre-season training soon.”

Arsenal Director of Football Edu also gave his thoughts on Havertz’s arrival: “We’re excited to bring Kai to the club and great work by everyone to get this deal complete.

Kai is an exciting addition to our squad, who will bring great attacking quality and versatility.

“As an experienced 24-year-old, his signing represents another important step in strengthening our young core of talented players we have at Arsenal.

“We look forward to working with Kai.”
Finally, Havertz gave his own reaction to making the switch from Chelsea: “It’s super exciting for me to be joining this amazing club and to be part of the Arsenal family. This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things.

“The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently.

“The aim is to win trophies and I’m going to give everything to do that for the supporters and everyone at the club.

“I’m now looking forward to meeting all the players and the staff when we come back for pre-season.”
