Update: Arsenal now targeting transfer move for £60m Man City player after Declan Rice deal

Arsenal are reportedly looking to reignite their interest in Joao Cancelo and seal a transfer move for him from Manchester City this summer.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich, it was claimed earlier this month that the full-back will be leaving the Manchester club on a permanent basis in this window.

Back in May, it was reported that Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern have an interest in signing the defender but nothing has become of this interest as of yet.

Now though, some fresh details have come to light regarding one specific club’s aims of landing a move for the City outcast.

Arsenal to pursue Cancelo deal
According to a recent report from TeamTalk, Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, is ready to aim his focus towards securing a deal for Cancelo this summer.

With the Gunners looking likely to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United after seeing City drop out the race, Edu’s reported intentions of adding the Portuguese international to Mikel Arteta’s squad shows how keen the north London club are to strengthen their squad so they can compete for titles next season.
Earlier this month, it was revealed by Pep Guardiola that he and the club were so desperate to offload the 28-year-old in January that they would have even let him go to Manchester United if that opportunity arose.

This suggests that the Citizens may not have an issue selling Cancelo to Arsenal this summer if they make a suitable offer for his services.

Bearing in mind how the Manchester club spent £60m to bring the right-back to the Etihad Stadium back in 2019, it would make sense for them to want a fee around this figure to let him go permanently.
