‘Well done’: Jose Enrique reacts as Arsenal reportedly beat Liverpool to 22-year-old

Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique has praised Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal after hearing that the Gunners are about to sign Jurrien Timber, a player who has been linked with a move to Anfield as well.

90min have reported that Arsenal and Ajax have agreed a deal for Jurrien Timber, who has been on the radar of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as well in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a right-back, will reportedly undergo a medical with the Gunners.

90min reported back in March that Liverpool were showing interest in Timber.

The report claimed that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are looking at the Netherlands international as well.

Liverpool to miss out
Jurrien Timber is a very good defender whose versatility would help Liverpool.

We believe that the youngster would have been a very good signing for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The Merseyside club could do with a promising and young centre-back in their team for next season and beyond.

And Timber, given his experience with Ajax in the Eredivisie and in Europe, would have made Liverpool better at the back.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk plays with Timber for the Netherlands national football team and rates him highly.

Timber scored two goals and gave two assists in 34 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax last season.

The defender also made six appearances in the UEFA Champions League and played two goals in the UEFA Europa League for the Dutch club last season.
