That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who say the ‘white smoke’ on a transfer worth almost €50m is on the way.
The newspaper reports that Timber wants to make the move to Arsenal and make use of agreements he made last year after a visit to London and talks with manager Mikel Arteta.
The negotiations between Timber and Arsenal are ‘going very well’ and the transfer is expected to take place sooner rather than later.
Ajax are keen for the deal to happen as they need the money to cover a deficit in their finances, despite new director of football Sven Mislintat having been determined to keep Timber when he arrived this summer.
The club’s Supervisory Board think differently, though, and have instructed Mislintat to ‘cash in properly’ before reinvesting in the first team squad.
That is why he ‘does not play hard’ in negotiations with his former club as he knows without selling Timber to Arsenal, he ‘barely has a penny’ to spend this summer.
