Barcelona forward could find new role within Xavi's system | Barca Universal

During Barcelona’s pre-season friendly defeat to Arsenal on Thursday morning, Ferran Torres, the 23-year-old, caught the eye with an impressive performance as a striker. He showcased his skills and netted a goal in the 88th minute.
Despite Barcelona’s initial intention to sell Torres this summer, he remains committed to staying at the club. He has found himself lower in the pecking order under Xavi Hernandez, with Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha preferred on the right wing, which is Torres’ natural position.

However, SPORT report that Xavi is now considering utilizing him differently in the upcoming season. Torres has proven to be a versatile player, capable of performing across the entire front three.

This adaptability may prove valuable for Xavi, particularly in the absence of a natural backup option for striker Robert Lewandowski until Vitor Roque joins the side next year.

Xavi is also reportedly contemplating deploying Torres on the left as an interior, a position in which he impressed during certain moments in the previous season.

With Xavi exploring ways to integrate Torres into the squad for the coming season, Barcelona’s focus has shifted to retaining the talented player. He will be given the opportunity to demonstrate his worth and contribute to the team’s success.

Earlier reports had also stated that Xavi was looking at tactical solutions to alleviate some of the pressure on Lewandowski’s shoulders, aiding him in goalscoring duties so the team can be more efficient.Ferran will presumably still be transferrable if the right offer comes in given Barcelona’d delicate finances, but the Spaniard could be given a chance to prove his value at least until the winter transfer window.

If Xavi’s gambit works, it could bump up his value for potential suitors or he could end up being an integral part of the team. Either way, a win for the Catalans.
