BREAKING:Liverpool to submit opening bid to sign £50m Arsenal target as Chelsea withdraw interest

Liverpool are keen to sign a third midfielder following the arrivals of Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, who joined in a £35m deal from Brighton last month, and they are now focusing on a deal for Lavia.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are preparing their first offer for the 19-year-old, while Southampton are holding out for a £50 million transfer fee.

The report also claims that Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment Joe Shields had recommended Lavia to Mauricio Pochettino but the club have alternative midfield targets.

Arsenal have also expressed an interest in signing Lavia this summer but the Gunners have made Declan Rice their top priority and are closing in on a £105m deal with West Ham.

Lavia joined Southampton in a £14m deal from Manchester City last year and delivered several impressive performances in his first season in the Premier League.

City did include a buyback option in their agreement with Southampton, however, it will not be activated until next summer.

‘I am really impressed with what Romeo has done and is doing,’ Pep Guardiola said of Lavia in April.

‘We had, and we have, an incredible opinion about him. We thought to keep him, but maybe he would not [get] enough minutes like he has in Southampton.’
