David Ornstein is reporting that Arsenal are looking into signing David Raya from Brentford. The idea is that Raya would come in and compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the number one spot. Ornstein states that no formal bid has come in from any club yet.
In what will be great news for Arsenal fans, Ornstein also states David Raya would be more open to moving to Arsenal over Bayern Munich. The Spanish goalkeeper would link up with his former goalkeeping coach Inaka Cana, who was formerly at Brentford between 2018 and 2019. Raya has just a year left on his contract, which does not exactly give Brentford tons of leverage on a potential deal.
The Bees have already prepared for Raya to leave the club this summer. Brentford signed Dutch International Mark Flekken from Freiburg earlier on in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal looking for more competition for Aaron Ramsdale comes as a bit of a surprise. While the jury is out on Ramsdale being an elite keeper, he is still a fairly solid number-one choice. Nonetheless, David Raya could legitimately usurp Ramsdale as the favourite for Mikel Arteta. With Champions League matches on the table this season Arsenal, having two good keepers battle it could be a smart move on Arsenal’s part.
Arsenal will receive a transfer boost knowing that Bayern Munich has reportedly dropped out of the race to sign David Raya. Bayern wanted him on loan, but the idea has been rejected by both Brentford and Raya, per Fabrizio Romano.A move for David Raya means USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner will likely be sold elsewhere.
As a part of his Raya reporting, Ornstein reveals that Nottingham Forest are looking at signing Turner. Fabrizio Romano reports that should Forest move for Matt Turner, it will be a permanent deal, but the club is also looking at bringing back Dean Henderson.
