'Impossible': Arteta told back-up Arsenal player can't be ignored after pre-season displays

The Belgium forward has scored three goals for Arsenal in the USA, including a brace during his side’s win over Barcelona last time out – Xavi wasn’t a happy man after the game.

Either way, fans aren’t too fussed, and as Arsenal expert Watts added, he could ‘easily score 10-15 goals’ this forthcoming campaign, as he told his own YouTube channel.

Of course, a lot will depend on how many games the £27 million signing (Sky Sports) starts because Gabriel Martinelli is the first choice.

The rising Brazil star scored 15 Premier League goals last term, so you would expect him to start the new campaign, but Trossard is banging on that door, as Watts named the former Brighton man as one of his ‘winners’ of Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the USA.

“Leandro Trossard, certainly,” said Watts. “He was the top scorer. He scored three goals over in the USA.

He was exceptional in the game against the All-Stars and against Barcelona as well.“When you looked at the start of the season and say ‘who is going to start?’ I think a lot of people would gloss over Trossard and it’s just impossible to do that. He is making it impossible to do that.

“The performances, the way he plays, the positions he can play and the versatility. He has just shown on this trip how important he is going to be. He could score a lot of goals this season.

“He could easily get yourself 10-15 goals the way he plays, along as Mikel plays him.”

The 28-year-old is the perfect squad player and someone who you just don’t doubt when they are out on that pitch.

Playing down the middle or on the left flank. A squad player or a starter. He can fill all those roles in brilliant ways.

And given that Arsenal’s lack of depth cost them last season, then having Trossard for a full campaign could be game-changing.
