MONDAY UPDATE:Fabrizio Romano shares Monday update on Rice to Arsenal with West Ham green light news

Romano shared on Twitter early Monday morning that West Ham were expected to give the transfer the green light very soon, with the transfer being at very advanced stages since Wednesday when it was reported a fee had been agreed upon [The Athletic, 28 June].

This news comes as no surprise, with it always feeling like a matter of when rather than if the West Ham and England star would make the switch to North London. Romano also reports that the Gunners are in the very advanced stages of their deal to sign Jurrien Timber from Ajax.
Fans will be grateful for the deal to be done

Of course, West Ham fans would have loved for Rice to remain at the club for his entire career, but he cannot be blamed for pursuing a huge move given the money and the stature of the clubs involved. Now, Hammers fans will be grateful for the deal’s conclusion, so they can focus on the rest of their transfer window.

The deal for Rice has dragged on longer than they perhaps would’ve hoped, given its seemingly inevitable conclusion as owner David Sullivan appeared on TalkSport [8 June] to confess Rice would be leaving.

With the Rice deal seemingly over the line, West Ham and their fans will now be looking to the rest of the transfer window, where the club are looking to do deals to replace the England midfielder as well as strengthening their squad, with links to Wilfried Zaha emerging in recent days.

The Hammers will hope to spend the £105million fee they receive for Rice on some quality additions to their squad which will be competing in the Europa League this season.
