Monza have signed the 29-year-old on a permanent €6m deal after a one-year loan at the U-Power Stadium in 2022-23.

Mari took to social media on Saturday to send a message to his ex-club and fans.

“As my contract with Arsenal comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you,” he said.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent this great and historic club, for all the memories we lived together and for the support I always received. It has been an immense honour to wear the Arsenal jersey and win two titles with this club. The Gunners will always have a place in my heart!”

Mari spent the last year and a half in Italy playing for Udinese and Monza.

He first joined the Friulani on a six-month loan in January 2022 and then signed for Monza on an initial loan deal last summer.

He helped the Brianzoli earn 52 points in 38 Serie A games becoming the best newly promoted team in Europe’s top 5 leagues in 2022-23.

Mari has played 31 games for Monza scoring one goal. During his time at the club, he was stabbed in a supermarket attack in October 2022 by a local with psychiatric problems.

The knife stuck in the back but luckily didn’t hit any vital organs or arteries, so Mari returned to action after a few weeks following surgery.
