'Absolute rubbish': Jay Bothroyd can't believe what he's hearing about Arsenal's Ben White

The former Hale-End star stated on Twitter that ‘nobody can play’ with such an injury, with Rob Holding claiming that Ben White did just that two seasons ago during Arsenal’s defeat at Newcastle United.

White played at centre-back during that campaign, including the entire 90 minutes, with Mikel Arteta’s side falling to a defeat and handing over fourth spot to their London rivals, Tottenham.

At that time, there was a lot of pressure and heat on the team as they crumbled during the final few months of the campaign, before mounting a title charge last term.

Of course, with William Saliba coming into the fold last season, it also saw Arteta push White into a right-back role.

But Holding’s comments on his teammate, whilst speaking on Tea with Timbsy, left a certain Jay Bothroyd baffled.

“Absolute rubbish,” said Bothroyd. “Nobody could play with a grade 3 muscle tear.

“Players have operations to re-attach the muscle when it’s grade 3. I don’t even think a physio or doctor would allow that. #facts.”

White returns to centre-back
When Arteta first brought White to the club from Brighton, he played the England international at the heart of the defence, before moving him to right-back when Saliba finally made his debut 12 months ago.

But it’s interesting that this season, he has returned to the heart of defence, with White playing both of Arsenal’s Premier League games in that role and Gabriel Magalhaes being benched – there has been talk of the Brazil star’s future.

Will that continue as the games progress? The injury to Jurrien Timber might just force Arteta to switch White back to fullback, especially with Takehiro Tomiyasu is now suspended.
