There must be a bit of a theme going on here, regarding Spanish players making loan moves, because Joselu, a former Newcastle United player, has himself made a similar switch this summer.
The 33-year-old probably couldn’t believe his luck, but Real Madrid have snapped him up for the season following his loan move from Espanyol.
Well, David Raya has done the same, but he has the option for Arsenal to buy the 27-year-old goalkeeper on a permanent basis next summer.
You would imagine if all goes well, then the Premier League title challengers will take up that option because Raya hasn’t come in to support Aaron Ramsdale, but to take his number one gloves.
Nonetheless, when Raya posted on Instagram about his move to Arsenal, he received a number of messages in the comments section of his post.
‘Animal, congratulations,’ wrote Joselu, whilst Aymeric Laporte applauded him and Wolves’ Pablo Sarabia added: ‘Congratulations and Good luck.’
Let the battle commence
Raya is in the building and now Aaron Ramsdale will know that he simply can’t make a single mistake.
Some will feel that type of pressure being put on the England goalkeeper is unnecessary because it just forces the players to do things they shouldn’t.
But it’s the road Mikel Arteta has decided to go down and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
