Tierney has fallen out of favour following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer. The Scot only made six Premier League starts this season and is set to fall further down the pecking order following the arrival of Jurrien Timber.
Newcastle were linked with a move for the 26-year-old earlier in the window. However, they didn't push through with their interest in the player Arsenal value at £30million.
Tierney has long been tipped to be a future captain of Arsenal. Former Gunners players have backed him to take the role, while Mikel Arteta also said similar in January 2021.
The Spaniard said: "I think he can be [captain], because he has the respect and the admiration of every member of the staff and every player. It's just the way he is, he does it in a natural way."
However, captaincy now looks set to be a distant dream for the former Celtic star. The Athletic claims that La Liga side Real Sociedad want to sign him before the end of the summer window.
Sociedad currently only want a loan deal but Arsenal would prefer to sell permanently. The report says they would be prepared to include a clause in a loan move that would see him leave next summer.
