Arsenal's dream deadline day involves two major signings as Edu sells four forgotten stars

Arsenal have spent around £210million on four new signings so far this summer. Kai Havertz was the first player through the door, for a fee of up to £65m.

Jurrien Timber then arrived for £38m before the club-record signing of Declan Rice in a deal that could reach £105m. Goalkeeper David Raya has arrived on a season-long loan, with an option to buy next summer for £27m.

Granit Xhaka and Folarin Balogun have left for substantial fees, while Matt Turner, Pablo Mari and Auston Trusty have all gone to new pastures. But Mikel Arteta has not finalised all the business he would have wanted to complete.

Arsenal transfer news: Rob Holding could be on his way
The anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Timber has seen Arsenal explore opportunities in the transfer market. The absence of the Dutchman is a big blow to Arteta's plans for this season.

He would have been able to cover three separate positions across the back line. Finding another player who can do that has proven tricky and there are no concrete targets heading into the last day of the window.

A second dream signing for today would be bringing in a back-up to Bukayo Saka. Arsenal do not have another player in their squad who would be a like-for-like replacement for the England star.

Saka has now played a club-record 83 Premier League games in a row. But it is unrealistic to assume he can keep that up all season with the addition of Champions League football.
