Aston Villa tipped to hijack Nottingham Forest deal for Arsenal dud Mikel Arteta is desperate…

The Gunners are currently focused on selling players rather than buying them due to having an oversized squad, as well as FFP concerns.

Arteta recently admitted that Arsenal’s current squad is ‘unsustainable.’ They have already sold six players this summer but are expected to part ways with a few more.

Tavares is one of the other players Arteta is happy to sell. He signed for the London club in 2021 but has never really nailed down a consistent spot in the starting XI.

Tavares has made 28 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions, scoring one goal and making two assists.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest were thought to be leading the race for his signature. The Tricky Trees currently have one fewer left-back than they did last season after Renan Lodi’s loan spell came to an end.

Reports now suggest, however, that Forest’s move for Tavares has now collapsed. This has opened the door for Aston Villa to make their move, who still haven’t replaced Ashley Young.

Aston Villa consider swoop for Arsenal defender
According to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are ‘exploring’ a potential deal for Tavares.

On Twitter, he wrote: “After deal collapsed with Forest, Aston Villa are exploring conditions of deal to sign Nuno Tavares from Arsenal.

“Personal terms not discussed yet — as up to the clubs now. Nuno, alternative option to Marcos Acuna deal with Sevilla for Villa.”

As mentioned, Aston Villa still haven’t found a replacement for Ashley Young, who played a lot of games as a left-back last term.Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna has been considered as one option. The Villain’s sporting director Monchi has a good relationship with his former club Sevilla and is believed to be pursuing a deal for the Argentina international.

However, it now seems Tavares could be brought in as an alternative. At 23 years old, he still has plenty of potential and could flourish with regular Premier League game time.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Aston Villa table a concrete bid for the Portuguese full-back in the next few days.
