“I think it could be something in defence if they want to replace Timber, who’s injured, but it’s still something not 100% decided by Arsenal. They’re still discussing internally.”
Timber picked up his ACL injury on his debut, which came in Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest right at the beginning of the season.
The Gunners signed the versatile defender from Ajax in a deal worth around £38m.
Arsenal may need another defender
Following Timber’s injury, it certainly does make sense for Mikel Arteta to bring in another body for his backline.
The Dutch youngster was playing at left-back before damaging his ACL and, since then, Kieran Tierney has departed Arsenal to join Real Sociedad on loan, so the club look really light in that position.
To make things worse, Oleksandr Zinchenko has also had some injury problems since arriving at the north London club from Manchester City last summer.
When you consider all of that, perhaps Arteta will dip into the transfer market to sign a new left-back or another type of defender just to give himself more options for the season.Overall, though, their defence looks like it has enough for the club to still have a good campaign should they be able to avoid any more serious injuries.
Arsenal, of course, have the likes of William Saliba and Ben White, with the latter able to play in central defence and at right-back.
To improve on last season, however, Arsenal may very well need to add another defender to their ranks. Squad depth could be the key in a long campaign where the Gunners now have Champions League football to contend with.
