JUST NOW:Arsenal create four-man shortlist with Tottenham target now being considered by Arteta

Arsenal are keen to add to their defensive options between now and the end of the transfer window and they have reportedly created a four-man shortlist.

The Gunners have had a solid transfer window up until this point, but Mikel Arteta seems keen to add some more options to his squad.

Following the injury to Jurrien Timber, Arsenal are now in the market for a new defensive option who can cover this position.

At just £34m Timber looks like excellent value for money, but he will be sidelined for the foreseeable future with an ACL injury.

As Arteta won’t want to be left short in defence, he is now searching the transfer market for a fresh option at the back.

According to Rudy Galetti, Arsenal have four different players in mind with Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson being one of the names mentioned.

“After injury of Timber, Arsenal are looking for a new centre-back,” Galetti reported on Twitter.

“In the Arsenal list there are 4 options: one of them is Victor Nelsson. The Galatasaray player has a release clause of €25m.”

The other three options aren’t clarified by Galetti, but a player like Nelsson would be an interesting signing for Arsenal.

The Denmark international has spent the last two years with Galatasaray but could be on the move this summer.

His current contract in Turkey runs until the summer of 2026, but the release clause in his contract would make him a cost-effective option for a side like Arsenal.

The 24-year-old predominately plays at the back although he can also play in defensive midfield. Given how much Arteta values versatility, Nelsson would tick plenty of boxes.

Arsenal have made a good start to the new campaign with back-to-back wins to kick off the new season.

Arteta will be well aware that squad depth will be crucial later on in the season, particularly with Arsenal now being back in the Champions League.

The Gunners will assess their options at the back over this next week or so and could decide to make a move for Nelsson.

Given his relatively cheap release clause, a move for Nelsson wouldn’t break the bank from Arsenal’s perspective.
