Oleksandr Zinchenko gives Arsenal injury update following Jurrien Timber issue

Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko has delivered an update on his current injury rehabilitation.

The Ukraine international has been sidelined with a calf problem since May, not fit enough to feature in the matchday squad on Saturday as his side beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the first match of their Premier League season. Summer signing Jurrien Timber started in Zinchenko's place at left-back but there was bad news for the Gunners, with the Dutchman limping off in the second half following a knee injury.

It remains to be seen just how serious the 22-year-old's issue is, with the north London club confirming that they are currently awaiting scans to discover the extent of the issue he has been dealt with. The club said in a statement on Monday: "Further to his substitution during our match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien has received extensive assessments and scans which have confirmed he has sustained an injury to his right knee.

"Jurrien will undergo a further detailed assessment and review with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, in order to determine the next steps. A further update will be provided in due course.

"Everyone at the club will be focused on supporting Jurrien at this time." Considering Timber is set to be sidelined, Arsenal supporters will be hoping that Zinchenko can get back to full fitness in time for Monday night's clash against Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park, the former Manchester City defender took to social media to post a picture back in training alongside his teammates. Writing on Instagram, Zinchenko said: "Great to be back. (Fist bump emoji)."

Zinchenko established himself as one of Arsenal's most important players last season, inverting into midfield his side were in possession, helping them form numerical superiority in central areas to dominate games more frequently.
