Arsenal linked with Torino central defender Perr Schuurs
The Gunners are reportedly considering a move for Schuurs as a potential replacement for Jurrien Timber.
Defender Timber, who joined Arsenal in the summer transfer window, could miss the entire season due to injury.
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also been linked with the 23-year-old centre-back in the summer transfer window.
Earlier this month, Torino Granata reported that Torino want €40 million (£34.32 million) in transfer fees for Schuurs, who is rated highly by former Liverpool striker Michael Owen.
Owen was hugely impressed by the defender when he was at Ajax.
Schuurs moved to Torino in the summer of 2022.
“(Schuurs) will be the new Matthijs de Ligt,” Owen told BT Sport (21 October, 10.30pm).
“He is still young, but what a body and what strength. He already reminds me a lot of De Ligt.
“Nice on the ball, aggressive and strong for his age. (Ajax) sold De Ligt for a lot of money but he can take over that role completely.”
Schuurs is a very good defender and is only 23 now.
Given the progress that the Dutchman has made at Ajax and Torino, it would be safe to say that he would develop and improve further in the coming years.
Arsenal, though, need to think carefully before spending €40 million (£34.32 million) on a defender they are not really desperate for and do not really need.
After all, Timber will be back next season.
William Saliba, Gabriel, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White are the main players at centre-back for Arsenal.
White is also adept at playing at right-back.
Rob Holding is still at Arsenal, and the centre-back could do a job from time to time when needed.
