Following his January move from Brighton, Trossard has made a good impression in north London and highlighted why Arsenal were pleased to strike a deal for £21m. The Belgium international frequently made an impact coming off of the bench for Mikel Arteta’s side, being deployed in numerous roles.
Trossard can play on both wings and as a striker, but he made it no secret that he joined Arsenal with the hope of becoming their creative midfielder. However, the ex-Genk star will have to be resigned to playing out wide due to Arsenal’s recent transfer business this summer.
Speaking last season, he said: “It helps me that I'm versatile and that I can play in different positions. They're looking forward to working with me and vice versa. I'm really excited to work with them and I think Mikel is a top coach.
“I like to be in the pocket behind the striker. On the wings, I can explore myself as well. I'm comfortable in either of those positions but if I were to choose, behind the striker - but it all depends on the system."
However, despite his bold statement, Arteta does appear to intend on playing Trossard in such a role.Martin Odegaard has been irreplaceable at the top of Arsenal’s midfield diamond, but fixture congestion next season prompted Arteta’s side to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea as cover.
Kudus is also being eyed, and the Ghana international has also found joy when given the freedom to roam behind a No 9.
