Therefore, football.london takes a look at four players who might save Arsenal money in the upcoming transfer windows. Promotion from within might not always be the most popular strategy but as some of these players have shown, it can be effective.
Reuell Walters
The exciting young defender has been on the minds of Arsenal fans for a couple of years now after he was the only youth call-up to the 2022 US tour. He wasn’t however in the group this year but still featured in plenty of senior-friendly matches and training sessions.
Timber really was the best option on the market this summer and finding a suitable replacement is nigh-on impossible to the standard of the Dutchman. Therefore, when January comes around, why invest millions in a player when Timber is expected back from potential March onwards when Walters can offer the depth?
Opportunities in the cup competitions are coming. This would be the perfect opportunity to give him the chance at a senior competitive level.
Ethan Nwaneri
Another youngster is Ethan Nwaneri who recently signed a professional contract with the club despite interest from Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Nwaneri has already showcased his talents at a ridiculously young age and could have a shout for competing in one of the two central attacking midfield roles used in Mikel Arteta’s system.
Exciting times are ahead and surely any transfer in this position would only be to the detriment of a player of his calibre. Save the money, and promote Nwaneri is what I say.
Reiss Nelson
Injury has been Nelson’s biggest adversary but with him now fit, it is the time to see him get the chances to rotate and offer competition in either of the two wide roles. This will hopefully mean money can be focused in other areas and Saka already has a ready-made cover for his position.
Emile Smith Rowe
Please do not sell Emile Smith Rowe. This was the call from so many Arsenal supporters amid rumours that Chelsea were making an approach for the attacking midfielder.
Mikel Arteta has assured doubters that he is in his plans and perhaps he could be a player to provide the depth in the forward line that is needed. He operated on the right in the preseason in Nelson’s absence and perhaps could have a future across any of the front three positions.
