Arteta has three priorities after Edu saves £7m with Arsenal transfer agreement

The summer transfer window may be closed in most of Europe, but Mikel Arteta is still shaping his Arsenal side for the here and now as well as the future.

The past few months have seen the Gunners add over £200million worth of talent to the squad with big-name additions like Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. With some early moves made, there was then a focus geared towards trimming the side so that there was balance.

Granit Xhaka was one of the first to make way before Hale Ender Folarin Balogun left the club for a decent fee to AS Monaco. Kieran Tierney made a move on loan to Real Sociedad, but it seemed as though there wasn't going to be enough time to move on former club-record signing Nicolas Pepe.

The £72million man had failed to hit the heights with the north Londoners and after spending last season on loan with OGC Nice, an exit seemed likely this summer. After missing out on a move elsewhere, it seems as though Trabzonspor is his next destination for a £3million fee, while saving £4million in wages for the year too.

There are still a few moves in the background that can take place as a priority after Pepe has officially left, including one outgoing and a few contract renewals.

Outgoings

Cedric Soares is one of the only players left that has been linked with an exit over the course of the summer transfer window, but hasn't yet made a switch. The right-back doesn't appear to have much of a place left in the side and could still make a move, though it remains to be seen.

Contracts

In terms of contract renewals, Arsenal have been keen to keep hold of their best talent and one of those still in need of a new deal is club captain Martin Odegaard. The 24-year-old has just two years remaining at the club and given his importance, discussions over an extension would make most sense.

Another on the cards is Ben White, who has three years left on his contract but given his rise to the top within the squad, an improved deal also makes sense.
