Disappointing Time at Arsenal
When Pepe joined Arsenal in 2019 following a prolific career with Lille, many hoped he would be a regular scorer with the Gunners and lead them back to being Champions League regulars. The Ivorian now leaves following a loan with French club Nice and only has one trophy to show for his efforts in the Premier League.
Pepe joins Trabzonspor following a disappointing campaign for them in the Super Lig last year. A sixth-placed finish was not good enough to see them secure a spot in European football. Pepe will be determined to kickstart his career after departing Arsenal following the termination of his contract.
Watch: Will Arsenal UNDERPERFORM This Season Under Mikel Arteta?
Arsenal Season Outlook
The Gunners got off to a strong start this season, beating Manchester City in the FA Community Shield, which gave them their first trophy. The Gunners will look to add trophies, as they will compete in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League this season. The latter of which they received an advantageous draw.
Releasing Pepe to be signed by Trabzonspor will not affect Mikel Arteta this year. The Ivorian will be happy to see regular playing time again, and Arsenal will regain critical salary space.
If he can get back to the form which earned him his move to North London, Trabzonspor will have got themselves a bargain. Pepe is at his best when running at defenders, where he can go inside or outside, making him a nightmare to mark. Injuries and lack of game time have made his time in North London a terrible spell for him, but a fresh start could be just what he needs.
