Alan Shearer believes that Sean Dyche has every right to be frustrated at the controversial incident in the Everton v Arsenal clash on Sunday, 17 September.
The Toffees ended up losing 1-0 but Dyche believes that it should’ve been level as his side were denied a penalty in the first half.
In the 31st minute, Abdoulaye Doucoure burst into the penalty area and went down due to a challenge from William Saliba but a penalty was not given.
Speaking in Premier League Productions’ post-match show, Shearer said at 7:18pm, “I totally understand and get his frustration for wanting consistency. He has every right to think it’s a penalty. I don’t. When you see the Newcastle one given and not that, come on man. You need consistency.”
This one was pretty hard to give as a penalty and by the rule book it perhaps was rightly not given as one.
However, given the inconsistencies in the refereeing standards in the Premier League, one can sympathise with Dyche for not getting things his way.
That does not take away from the fact that it was a poor performance and not one the Toffees will be proud of in front of their home fans.
Goodison Park was supposed to be a fortress but now it’s just a happy hunting ground for visiting teams.
Dyche and the players need to bring back that fear into the team and make it a tough place to visit.
Right now, this side seems better off playing away from home and their results are also proving that this is not ideal for any club.
