The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has said on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast that Manchester United should have signed Declan Rice and Harry Kane in the summer of 2023.
While England international striker Kane joined Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, England international midfielder Rice moved to Arsenal from West Ham United.
Manchester United signed England international midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United told they should’ve signed Arsenal star Declan Rice
Sherwood said, as transcribed by TBR: “I’m not sure Daniel Levy would’ve wanted to sell him (Kane) there.
“If they wanted to bid £150m I’m not sure he would’ve cut his nose off to spite his face. He would’ve done the deal.
“I don’t think they were there, Rasmus Hojlund was the main target, and he likes players he’s worked with before. They need more than just Harry Kane.
“I thought they had a decent season last year, a progression season, if they went ‘come on Declan (Rice) we’re having you, and we’re going to have Harry Kane’ they would’ve challenged for the title, but I think they have more problems than that and I’m not 100% sure on the manager.”Declan Rice flourishing at Arsenal
We do not have any doubt whatsoever that Declan Rice would have been a great signing for Manchester United.
Rice has made an immediate impact at Arsenal and has already made the Gunners a better and stronger team in the middle of the park.
The £240,000-a-week (Spotrac) 24-year-old could have done something similar at Old Trafford.
Having said that, we also have to consider that the Red Devils already have a brilliant defensive midfielder in Casemiro.
Both Arsenal and Manchester United are aiming to win the Premier League title this season.
