JUST NOW:Arsenal transfer denied as Thomas Partey injury hands Mikel Arteta fresh dilemma

Jorginho's agent, Joao Santos, has confirmed that the Arsenal star will stay at the Emirates Stadium for the foreseeable future after the summer transfer window closed. The Italy international was linked with a shock switch to Fenerbahce this summer following the arrival of Declan Rice.

The 24-year-old completed a £105million move to Arsenal from West Ham and has become Mikel Arteta's first-choice defensive midfielder. Jorginho's current deal runs out in the summer of 2024, but the Gunners have the option to trigger an extension.

Speaking to tuttomercatoweb, Santos said: "Jorginho is focused on Arsenal. Therefore, on the Premier League championship and the Champions League.

"He will not go to Fenerbahce," he added. The 31-year-old has only played 17 minutes of action for Arsenal so far this season, but Thomas Partey's recent injury blow could see him come into the team after the international break.

Jorginho was not called-up to the Italian national team for the upcoming international fixtures - which will allow him to continue training at London Colney and prepare for a busy run of fixtures. Arsenal begin their Champions League group stage campaign on Wednesday, September 20 - just three days after a tricky away fixture against Everton.

Arteta will need to rely on every player in his squad to manage the fixture schedule and Partey's injury leaves just Rice and Jorginho available to play as a holding midfielder. Mohamed Elneny is continuing his recovery from injury, whilst the Ghana international is not expected to return to action until after the October international break.
