This was a deserved call-up for Gabriel Magalhaes because, for the last few years, he has become a key player for Mikel Arteta and their rise to challenge at the top of the Premier League table.
Some would argue that this call-up has been a long time coming and he should have been picked for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
But, in an ironic set of circumstances, as soon as Arteta decides to drop Gabriel to the bench for the start of the new Premier League season, he ends up getting his call-up.
Either way, it’s much deserved for the player and there will be plenty more to come, no doubt – Gabriel’s debut was a 5-1 win over Bolivia, before he helped his nation to three points and a clean sheet against Peru on Wednesday – both World Cup qualifiers.
Gabriel praised after making Brazil debut
“God bless you,” wrote Larissa Moura in the comments section of Gabriel’s IG post, added with praying hands emoji, whilst Gabriel’s wife added: ‘Wonderful’ and Fulham striker Carlos Vinicius applauded his fellow countryman.
A busy month ahead for Arsenal
Gabriel might have been dropped for Arsenal’s first few fixtures of the new season, but he did return to the XI against Manchester United last time out.
You would expect the £23 million star (BBC Sport) will keep his place for the dreaded trip to Goodison Park this weekend.
But you also have to factor in Champions League football returning next week, so Arteta might have to rotate ahead of a busy schedule.
