Following Jurrien Timber's ACL injury, the Gunners are now relatively short of options at the back, leaving some speculation regarding a potential move for a defender before the window closes. One centre-back that has been mooted as a potential target is Garcia.
However, it appears that the Spanish international will be joining La Liga outfit Girona instead, a move that Manchester City have reportedly had a hand in. It is claimed by transfer expert Toni Juanmarti that City would only allow Joao Cancelo to join Barcelona if the Catalan giants allowed Garcia to leave for Girona on a season-long loan.
Girona, like the Citizens, are owned by the City Group, which explains their reasoning for wanting the young defender to play for the Blanquivermells. Despite rumours circulating regarding a defender joining the club, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta claimed on Friday that no additional signings would be made on deadline day.
"Yeah. There is nobody else coming in. We don’t expect it. That’s what I can say," said Arteta when asked about the prospect of signing new players. When quizzed on reacting to the aforementioned injury to Timber's injury, the Spaniard explained why he's said that he is not expecting any other incomings.
"We’ve done quite a lot and had a bit of uncertainty with some players as well, so we had to be very cautious and find alternatives. Sometimes you want to do everything that is needed but sometimes it’s not possible and we have to adapt."
