Mikel Arteta's men will travel to Merseyside to take on Sean Dyche's struggling Toffees, who find themselves in the relegation zone after four games, picking up only one point so far.
For their return to league action, Arsenal could find themselves without four players. Mohamed Elneny has been out since January but is expected to return this month while Jurrien Timber's anterior cruciate ligament injury is expected to keep him out for the majority of the season.
The extent of Thomas Partey's groin injury continues to be unclear after he missed the 3-1 win over Manchester United. The Ghana FA confirmed, prior to the fixture, that the 30-year-old had suffered the problem in training with Arteta confirming he would miss weeks of action.
"I don't know. Unfortunately he got injured in training," the Gunners boss said. "It doesn't look good. I believe he'll be out for a few weeks. It's more of a groin."
Partey had started the season at right-back for Arsenal, consequently moving Ben White into central defence and Gabriel Magalhaes dropping to the bench. Against United, Gabriel returned to the starting XI alongside William Saliba. However, the defender could now be a doubt for the trip to Everton after an injury scare for Brazil.
The centre-back made his international debut for the five-time World Cup winners in the 5-1 win over Bolivia. He played 85 minutes alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Marquinhos before coming out and being pictured having ice applied to his right thigh.
It remains to be seen how serious Gabriel's knock actually is. Physical therapy doctor, Dr. Rajpal Brar, provided an optimistic assessment of the injury, claiming he's been told that the knock is "contact related" rather than a muscle pull.
Should the 25-year-old be sidelined for the return to action, Arteta will be posed with a defensive predicament. The Gunners boss could be without three options in his backline meaning there could be a place for Jakub Kiwior at centre-back.Fortunately, Oleksandr Zinchenko continued his return to full fitness in the win over Man United by being named in the starting XI. The left-back is part of the Ukraine squad for their European Championship qualifiers against England (September 9) and Italy (September 12)..
Arsenal will be hoping that the versatile star will come back from his international duties unscathed and ready to start at Goodison Park. A similar story could be hard with Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus in the next five days.
Barring any injuries in midfield, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Odegaard are expected to retain their positions. The trio have begun to show glimpses of Arteta's vision in midfield, although question marks remain over Havertz after his start to life in north London.
Fabio Vieira will fancy his chances of replacing the German after his impressive cameo appearances off the bench in the last two games. The Portuguese playmaker came off the bench against Fulham two weeks ago to win a penalty - that Saka scored - and crossed for Eddie Nketiah in 34 minutes.
Against United, the 23-year-old assisted Jesus in the 101st minute to secure the three points with a well-timed pass to play the Brazilian through. His displays have called for him to be handed an opportunity from the start against Everton.
In attack, Saka and Martinelli will be keen to continue in the wide positions. The pair have started every single game so far this season, meaning the only question mark in the frontline is who takes up the centre-forward position.
Jesus played nearly half an hour in the win over Man United, scoring his first goal of the season. The Brazilian replaced Nketiah in a like-for-like swap, although the Hale Ender's displays have seen him favoured. Against Everton, Arteta will have a tough decision to make between the two.
Nketiah is in contention to make his England debut in the next four days. The Three Lions play Ukraine later today before facing Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening. Whoever Arteta opts for, he will have a strong option off the bench.
