'Really gave him a chasing': Ian Wright says £6m Arsenal ace destroyed Man United 25-year-old

One thing Aaron Wan-Bissaka prides himself on is his defending, alongside someone like Manchester City’s Treble-winner Kyle Walker, the Manchester United right-back could probably argue that he is the best one-v-one defender in the Premier League.
But, up against Arsenal’s rising star Gabriel Martinelli yesterday, it was a different story, despite the qualities of the Englishman, which Wright touched upon, as he told Premier League Productions (04/09/23 at 2:15 pm).

Many attacks came down Wan-Bissaka’s side, including Martinelli supplying the assist for Arsenal’s opening goal – Interestingly enough, over on the other side, it was claimed that Diogo Dalot was ‘scared’ of Bukayo Saka.

Those in the away end were still celebrating Marcus Rashford’s goal, but within a minute of that goal, Arsenal were cutting open their opponents, with Martinelli’s pass finding Martin Odegaard on the edge of the box and he slotted home.

Wright spoke about the different ways Arsenal can break down teams, as he called for patience towards Mikel Arteta.

“I thought Martinelli really gave Aaron Wan-Bissaka a chasing yesterday,” said Wright. “We know how good he is, but again, with Arsenal, we will go through with three passes. Left, centre and right.

“And that’s what you have to do. You have to find the goals from other places. We can’t be so negative when we lose that side. Like we did with Saliba. There are so many different avenues in which we are trying to attack that we have to be patient with him (Arteta).”

Martinelli’s rise
It just goes to show, amid teams spending millions and millions on players, including this new craze of putting £100 million+ down for midfielders, that those so-called cheap options are still out there.Arsenal only paid £6 million for Martinelli from Brazil as a fresh-faced teenager in 2019 (Goal), and during that period, he has transformed in incredible ways and into a top Premier League performer.

From becoming a Brazil international and repping his nation at the 2022 Qatar World Cup to scoring 15 Premier League goals last term, the best is still to come from Martinelli
