Report: Arsenal already pushing to sign £60m star in January amid claims Chelsea are confident

Arsenal are ramping up their interest in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney well ahead of the January transfer window opening.

Ivan Toney is emerging as a top target for Arsenal with Mikel Arteta seemingly keen on adding a new striker.

That is according to The Mirror, who claim that Arsenal area now ‘stepping up’ their interest in signing Toney.

The 27-year-old is currently blocked from playing having been hit with a ban for gambling breaches.

Toney is training with Brentford again but can’t actually play again until January.

Toney may be on the move in January as he heads towards the final 18 months of his contract – and Arsenal are very keen.

Arsenal step up Ivan Toney interest
It’s now stated that Arsenal are ramping up their interest in Toney ahead of the transfer window opening.

Brentford want around £60million for Toney and are happy to wait and wait until they get their price.

Arsenal could be the ones to make their move with Arteta driving the interest in Toney’s signature.

The Mirror claim that Arteta wants a proven Premier League striker and preferably somebody with physicality as a number nine.

Toney ticks those boxes perfectly and Arsenal are positioning themselves for a potential January transfer.

Chelsea allegedly confident on Toney
These claims come just days after TalkSPORT reported that Chelsea are confident of securing Toney’s signature in January.

The Blues are absolutely desperate for a regular goalscorer with summer signing Nicolas Jackson clearly just a little too raw right now.Toney would give Mauricio Pochettino a consistent source of goals as a player who has already proven his Premier League quality.

This would of course mean Chelsea throwing more money at their squad problems, and Arsenal currently look like a better prospect given their Premier League and Champions League hopes.

Toney has much to think about in the coming months but we couldn’t blame him if he prioritised Arsenal over Chelsea.
