Report: Arteta seriously thinking about benching £30m Arsenal player after international break

David Raya could be given a real chance in the Arsenal first team after the international break with Mikel Arteta considering a change.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is now under increasing pressure to keep his place.

It’s stated that Arteta is now giving ‘serious consideration’ to benching Ramsdale in the coming weeks.

We’re now in the international break and Ramsdale has started all of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this term.

Artetea could make a change when league action returns though with Raya now in contention for a ‘prolonged first-team opportunity’.

David Raya impressing in Arsenal training
The report claims that there is now a ‘growing feeling’ inside Arsenal that Arteta will make a change and go with Raya soon.

That’s because Raya is understood to have ‘deeply impressed’ during Arsenal training sessions since his arrival from Brentford last month.

Raya’s ability to pass out from the bench is thought to have really caught the eye, prompting this potential change from Arteta.

That could give Raya a chance in the Arsenal first team, whilst parent club Brentford may not stand in the way of him playing against the Bees in the Carabao Cup.

Raya has joined Arsenal on a £3million loan deal but with the option of a £27million permanent move next summer.Aaron Ramsdale benching would feel harsh
Ramsdale didn’t end last season in particularly stellar form but he hasn’t really been a huge problem so far this term.

The £30million signing from Sheffield United has largely impressed since arriving at Arsenal back in 2021.

The arrival of Raya was always going to lead to this kind of situation though; the very real chance of Ramsdale being dropped in favour of a hugely impressive stopper in Raya.

Playing out from the back is just as important as actual goalkeeping ability and if Raya is really shining in that regard, Arteta could make a rather harsh change, all with the idea of making Arsenal better.
