Chelsea and Arsenal in fierce battle for Spanish star considering leaving Bundesliga club

Chelsea and Arsenal going head-to-head to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo
Chelsea and Arsenal are going head-to-head to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, who is reportedly considering leaving the Bundesliga side according to the Sun.

The 25-year-old Spain international is attracting interest from across Europe, with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal keen to lure him away from Germany.

Despite being contracted at Leipzig until 2027 after signing a new deal last summer, Olmo has admitted he is open to a transfer amid links to the London duo. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Olmo is “seriously considering leaving” the club he joined from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020.

Chelsea are monitoring the playmaker as they aim to refresh their midfield options. The Blues have struggled so far this season, winning just three of their first eight Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Arsenal view Olmo as someone who could boost their creativity and goal threat in attack.

Olmo’s £60 million release clause is likely within reach for both clubs. But getting him from Leipzig may still prove difficult despite the player’s apparent openness to a new challenge.

In 127 appearances for the German side, Olmo has scored 26 goals while also operating across the forward line and in attacking midfield. His versatility and productivity make him an enticing option for Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino as he weighs up potential January reinforcements.

However, Olmo’s priority is said to be securing a dream return to Barcelona, where he originally began his career. But the Catalan club’s financial issues mean meeting Leipzig’s valuation could be problematic.

That could open the door for Chelsea or Arsenal to agree a deal for the 25-year-old, who has previously admitted England appeals to him.

A Premier League switch may beckon if Barca’s precarious monetary position prevents them from sealing a reunion.
