JUST NOW:Arsenal line-up 'perfect' Xhaka replacement with tried-and-tested move

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a move for highly-rated Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber, brother of Jurrien Timber. The Dutch star has impressed a number of top European clubs after his performances in the last 15 months.

Timber helped Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title last season with five-goal contributions in 24 games. The 22-year-old has carried on where he left off this campaign, scoring once and assisting a further three in the opening seven games of the season.

As Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Cody Gakpo, Mohammed Kudus and Jurrien Timber are all case studies too, the Eredivisie has been a popular scouting mission for teams in the Premier League. The talent dotted around the Netherlands has seen the likes of Ajax and PSV rack in millions but it could be Arne Slot's outfit who could benefit next.

According to 90min, several Premier League clubs have been left impressed with Timber's performances at the start of the season. Alongside striker Santiago Gimenez, the midfielder has impressed the scouting team at the Emirates Stadium, sparking rumours of a potential reunion between the twins.

However, the Gunners won't be alone with Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham also monitoring his progress. There is also interest from Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, AS Monaco and Napoli.

Feyenoord's impressive start to the 2023/24 season, as well as strong interest in Gimenez, means any possible deal in January may be difficult to construct. However, the versatile midfielder has already hinted of his ambition for a big transfer.

"Yes, for sure. In the future of course. It would be nice to be able to take such a step. But that of course starts today, at Feyenoord. This season I want to show beautiful things. And we will see what the future brings. But that would certainly be nice, yes," he told Voetbal International in August.Calls for Arsenal to recruit a new versatile midfielder have increased in recent months following the departure of Granit Xhaka. A quality No.8 is hard to come by in Europe's top divisions - as the Gunners found out with £105million signing of Declan Rice from West Ham - meaning Timber could be the perfect buy.

In his short time in England, Jurrien has shown glimpses of his quality after moving to the big league. Kudus has done the same at West Ham and Martinez is viewed by many as one of Man United's best defenders.

Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Gakpo are other prime examples of buying raw talent from the Netherlands and reaping the rewards. The quality is there.
