Mauricio Pochettino now must start 22-year-old for Chelsea against Arsenal after this weekend – opinion

Mauricio Pochettino will now have a couple of weeks before he has to worry about selecting a Chelsea XI to play in the Premier League again.

He will now have a better idea of the players he trusts to start after they have returned to winning ways in the league.

Two wins in a row was the rare achievement reached when they defeated Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Some of the standout performers were Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer. The former was involved in some way in every goal scored.

Pochettino made the choice to start Armando Broja up front for the second game in a row at the weekend, as he continues his comeback from injury.

After finding the net against Fulham, he endured a quiet afternoon up North before being replaced by Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson must start against Arsenal
The 22-year-old may well have started every game this season if it wasn’t for his suspension that ruled him out of last week’s West London derby.

However, he showed in just a cameo appearance that he is certainly a player with the capabilities to play up front for the Blues, and this could be big when looking ahead to their next opponents.

Arsenal currently boast one of the strongest central defensive duos in the league right now, who are fresh off completely dismantling Erling Haaland at the Emirates.

If Chelsea are to succeed at Stamford Bridge in a couple of weeks’ time, it is likely to be working around a striker whose main role is to keep the defenders quiet.

While goals have not always flowed for Jackson, what cannot be doubted is his ability to rough up defenders, and this should be utilised next time out.
