Mikel Arteta gives green light over future Arsenal manager with assured two-word verdict

Arteta has been keen to add familiar faces to the staff at London Colney, and one former player who returned under his watch was fan favourite Jack Wilshere, who was appointed the Arsenal Under 18s coach in July 2022.
The former midfielder, whose career was cut short by injuries, has excelled in his coaching position and has since been linked with an exit with Colorado Rapids keen on acquiring his services. It would be a blow to lose the Englishman but Arteta and co wouldn't stand in his way.

And on Friday, Arteta was quizzed about Wilshere's future amid exit links and he was keen to lead the plaudits of his former team-mate at the Emirates Stadium, before saying 'I'm sure' he could take over one day in north London.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke very highly of Jack Wilshere
During his press conference ahead of the London derby against fierce rivals Chelsea, Arteta told reporters: "First of all I am really happy that Jack is part of the setup. I think he has done really well, he has brought something that was very necessary in the academy and around the place.

"These things are going to happen when people are doing well - you are going to get attraction and then it will come down to him to make what he believes is the best decision for his career."

Then when asked if he could potentially become Arsenal manager one day, the Spaniard replied: "Way down the line, you don't know when that is. It can be very soon. He has got the potential to do it.

"Now it is clear in his mind what he wants to do and the reasons why he wants to do it. I think it is a big asset for the club to have him here." He also added: "Jack Wilshere could be Arsenal coach one day, I'm sure."

For now, Arteta's mind is solely focused on the upcoming contest against Chelsea, who have started to find their rhythm under Mauricio Pochettino. The Gunners are going in search of a fourth consecutive win at Stamford Bridge, in what would go further to proving their dominance over the Blues in recent years.
