Mikel Arteta prepared to sign 'another David Raya' as Arsenal transfer plans emerge

Arsenal have renewed their interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster his squad even further.

The Gunners were linked with a move for the Chelsea academy graduate in the summer after his impressive performances at Selhurst Park. And it appears that they could make a fresh effort to secure his services sooner rather than later.

They could however face competition in any attempt to sign him. It is suggested that Guehi’s former club Chelsea are also among the interested parties, while Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham have all been linked.

According to The Sun, Palace could demand over £50million for the 23-year-old after previously signing him from Chelsea for around £18m two years ago. Arsenal would be willing to wait to make any play for the defender.

The Gunners are aware that Guehi is currently not on the market and they are willing to wait until the end of the current campaign to firm up their interest with an offer. The defender currently has just under three years left to run on his Palace deal.

Another reason that Arsenal would be willing to wait is their already strong defensive numbers. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have been Arteta’s preferred duo so far this season.

The North London side also have Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior and Jurrien Timber capable of deputising in the position. Arteta though is no stranger to bolstering an already strong position in his side.

The Spaniard pursued a move for Brentford’s David Raya this summer despite already having Aaron Ramsdale at the club. The Spaniard has since been installed as the club’s number one but has endured a tricky start to life at the Emirates after a series of high-profile errors.Raya did however manage to keep another Premier League clean sheet on Saturday in the 5-0 win against Sheffield United. Guehi in the meantime was in action on Friday evening as Crystal Palace lost 2-1 to table-topping Tottenham.

The Gunners appear to be quietly confident about a deal for the defender after beating Man City to the signing of £105m man Declan Rice in the summer. Guehi is not the only player on their shortlist ahead of the January transfer window opening.
