Nick Pope and Arsenal 23-year-old send messages to Joe Willock after what has just happened

The 23-year-old commented: “My boy.”

Willock is such a popular player
Willock is feeling the love from teammates past and present. That shows just how well-liked he has been throughout his career.

He will actually be playing against his former club very soon, with Newcastle taking on Arsenal at St James’ Park one week on Saturday. Willock will be delighted that he is back fit for that game.

For Eddie Howe, he will have to be careful with Willock. A lot of players have spoke about how much better Newcastle are with him in the team, but rushing him back into the starting XI would be a mistake. The 24-year-old came off the bench during Newcastle’s Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund. He played the final 20 minutes as the Magpies were beaten 1-0.

While the result was disappointing, it was fantastic to see Joe Willock back on the St James’ Park pitch. It was his first appearance since May, having suffered an injury at the back end of last season.

Eddie Howe could not hide his delight at having the midfielder back, and it was a real surprise to actually see him feature against Dortmund.

Willock only returned to training last week, and it felt like his comeback appearance was still a couple of weeks away. But he was able to play, and will look to continue building up his match fitness away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.

While it is likely too early for him to start, Toon fans should expect to see another cameo from the bench.
