Mykhailo Mudryk was able to score from a cross against Raya and the winger has now told Chelsea’s official club website that the team’s goalkeeper coach told him to keep an eye on the Spaniard’s positioning during the game.
It is a moment that Raya will want to forget, though his counterpart at the other end of the pitch did not fare any better on the day.
Robert Sanchez was at fault for Declan Rice’s goal, passing the ball straight to the England midfielder before he calmly curled it into the Chelsea keeper’s net.
Mykhailo Mudryk’s goal against Arsenal
Mudryk is not taking all of the credit for his goal, which he has described as a cross/shot.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official club website after the game, the 22-year-old said: “It was something in the middle, between a cross and a shot.
“Before the game, our goalkeeper coach told me to look at their keeper because sometimes he is trying to read things and he can just lose the goal, so I can chip him.”
Mykhailo Mudryk improving under Mauricio Pochettino
Whether it was a shot or a cross, Mudryk’s goal can only be seen as a positive and shows that he is improving under Pochettino.
It was his second of the campaign and he can be extremely happy with that. Last term, the Ukrainian failed to score at all for Chelsea following his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Chelsea FC v Arsenal FC - Premier LeagueWe think it is fair to say, though, that Mudryk did his job yesterday. Where Pochettino was let down was at the back, with Sanchez’s mistake and some poor defending from Malo Gusto the cause of Arsenal’s comeback.
Chelsea face west London rivals Brentford next. If they avoid doing the above at the Gtech Community Stadium, you would back Mudryk and the rest of Chelsea’s attackers to guide the team to the three points.
