What Ivan Toney did during Chelsea vs Arsenal amid transfer link as message sent

Chelsea and Arsenal transfer target Ivan Toney has again sent any potential suitors a certain indication that he'll be fit and ready for action ahead of the January transfer window.

The Brentford star, who is currently serving a ban from all senior matches for breaching gambling rules, netted 20 goals last season and would've been a hot commodity in the summer if not for his lengthy suspension. Having already served over half of his ban however, rumours have been circulating of a potential move across the capital to either the Gunners or Mauricio Pochettino's Blues.

Both teams have had their attacking ranks questioned already this season, with Chelsea starting out slowly in front of goal with Premier League rookie Nicolas Jackson as their main striker in the squad. Arsenal, on the other hand, have seen Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus' roles in the team doubted, with Mikel Arteta likely to look for an option in the winter to bolster their chances of winning a first title in 20 years.

Even Brentford manager Thomas Frank has admitted that he's likely to leave in January, and that if the price is right, no one at the Bees will stop him from leaving. By this point last year, Toney had already racked up nine goals of his own, including a 28-minute hat-trick in a 5-2 thrashing of Leeds United and his boss believes there'll be a lot of offers coming their way.

"I think every club in the world is a selling club apart from five or six clubs. We are a selling club if the right price is there," he admitted on Monday Night Football earlier this season. "I think it’s the right timing for the player to go, that is not my decision in the end.

"If they build well with us on this journey, and now prove they are good enough to go to the top clubs, but for the right price. Yes, it does apply to him too (Toney), I understand why there are a lot of rumours out there, for me, as a striker and a number nine, I don’t see many others better than him in the world. You have [Harry] Kane, Robert [Lewandowski], and [Erling] Haaland, but not many scored 20 goals in the Premier League for a very good Brentford side of course, we are not creating as many chances as the top six teams, so imagine him in a top team, he would easily score 20/25 goals.

"I think he’s composed, a good mentality, a good finisher so I can see why clubs are looking at him. But, he’s a Brentford player, and if other clubs want to come, in today’s market, the prices for number six players, we know that attacking players are the most expensive ones so I guess that will be very expensive."

With the two sides leading the race for him having played out a dramatic 2-2 draw over the weekend in which either one of them could've won the match, they both would've been dreaming of having a frontman like Toney who is capable of putting away difficult opportunities. However, instead of keeping up with either of his potential suitors, Toney was hard at work.

Posting to Instagram on Saturday night, he shared a video of himself in the gym at Brentford's training ground, working out and keeping his fitness levels up. Now he's shared a new image on his social media accounts - this time one of him and Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer on the training pitch together.

In the photo, Toney is seen posing and smiling at Brentford's Robert Rowan Performance Centre after what was no doubt a good session out on the field. It once again reiterates how much Toney wants to get back into the games he's been missing from over the past few months, with the star eager to hit the ground running either with the Bees or a new club in the winter.
