Chelsea ‘ready’ to make big money Arsenal raid as Man Utd plot £22m midfielder swap deal

We begin Friday lunchtime’s Premier League transfer rumour round-up with the news that Chelsea are ‘ready’ to push hard for the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window. The England international has found game time hard to come by at the Emirates in recent weeks following the arrival of David Raya from Brentford, and his long-term future with the Gunners look increasingly precarious.

According to talkSPORT, however, a move across the capital could be on the cards, with Chelsea willing to offer him an escape route, despite having only just signed a new number one themselves in the form of Robert Sanchez. It is suggested that any potential deal for Ramsdale could cost around £50 million.

That said, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has rubbished talk of Ramsdale heading to Stamford Bridge, and the Italian certainly knows his transfer onions.

The 3AM Verdict: Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation looks increasingly unsustainable. You can talk all you like about competition and rotation policies, but the simple fact of the matter is that a stopper of Ramsdale’s obvious quality is not going to be content with sitting on the bench week after week, especially when he did very little wrong to justify his sudden exclusion in the first place. Perhaps he will end up at Chelsea, and perhaps he won’t, but either way, something has got to give.

United eye Vermeeren
Elsewhere, Manchester United are said to have joined the race for prodigious Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. The 18-year-old is currently on the books at Royal Antwerp, and has been attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona in recent months, but it is understood that the Red Devils are willing to go to toe-to-toe with the best sides in Europe in an attempt to lure him to Old Trafford.According to Mundo Deportivo, a fee of around £21.8 million could be enough to convince Antwerp into a sale, although it remains to be seen whether United have what it takes to see off stiff competition from elsewhere on the continent.

The 3AM Verdict: They say there is no smoke without fire, and while few United supporters will have actually seen Vermeeren in action over the past 15 months or so since he made his senior debut, the fact that he is already attracting such high-profile attention would suggest that he is a very, very special talent. That interest from Barcelona in particular is a worry, however, and could ultimately prove to be the factor that derails United’s prospects.

Spurs willing to sell Lo Celso
And finally, Football Insider report that Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in January. The 27-year-old has struggled to make a sustained impact on the first team picture in North London since completing a permanent transfer back in 2020.

The arrival of James Maddison has done little to help his cause either, and it is now understood that Spurs are not only open to his departure, but would be willing to accept an offer of as little as £15 million in an effort to get him off the books. When joining from Real Betis, Lo Celso cost the club in excess of £42 million.

The 3AM Verdict:This feels like the right decision. Lo Celso has struggled for game time of late, and given how well Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently going, he is unlikely to receive a boost to his prospects any time soon. A fee of £15 million may feel a little on the low side considering how much Spurs paid for him, but an exit would be best for all parties at this stage.
