Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa in January, and Edu Gaspar’s son, Luigi, has sent him a message on Instagram.

The Gunners need reinforcements in the middle of their park. Thomas Partey has proved to be an unreliable player because of his injury issues, and that has cost Mikel Arteta the balance he needs in his side. Luiz is said to be the Gunners’ number-one target in January now.

Arsenal have had an interest in Douglas Luiz for well over a year now.

The Brazilian has been excellent for Aston Villa since joining them from Manchester City. He has taken his game to a whole new level under Unai Emery, and he is a wanted man now.

Arsenal are already without Partey and are not expected to have him back till the end of this year. Even if he is back fit in January, he’s likely to leave for the African Cup of Nations with Ghana.

Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar need a new midfielder to take Partey’s place – both in the short term as well as in the long run – and Luiz has been in the news a lot.

Now, to add fuel to all the rumours, Edu’s son, Luigi Gaspar, has replied to Luiz’s latest post on Instagram.

“Father of the ball,” he wrote as the Aston Villa man uploaded a couple of pictures of himself training with the Brazil squad.

Douglas Luiz would be a great signing for Arsenal

Arsenal will struggle to get a better player than Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window.

The Brazilian knows the Premier League very well. He is excellent on the ball, very good without it and has brilliant ability in set-pieces as well. He has an eye for a goal from distance too, which would be an added bonus to Arsenal.Luiz is having an amazing season at Aston Villa. He has been among the goals and is one of the biggest reasons why Unai Emery’s side are just three points off the top of the table.

Villa will do everything they can to keep hold of Luiz in January, but if Arsenal can get him, they will give themselves a great chance of going all the way in the Premier League title race.
