Arsenal made several changes for their all-Premier League clash against West Ham United, with Kai Havertz returning to the XI.
But the Gunners suffered a deserved 3-1 defeat, with Darren Bent questioning ‘What exactly does Kai Havertz bring to the team?’, as he posted on Twitter.
The 24-year-old played the entire game and struggled to get going for a team that had over 70% possession, but were 3-0 down after an hour.
It was a rare below-par performance from an Arsenal side that only lost its second game this season.
What is also a rarity is a top-quality Kai Havertz performance because Darren Bent stated that he hasn’t seen anything of note from the £280k-a-week man (Spotrac) since his big-money transfer from Chelsea.
Kai Havertz criticism
“Fair play to West Ham,” said Bent. “Arsenal not at the races at all tonight.
“I hate singling out one player but I need someone to explain why 65 million was spent on Kai Havertz and what exactly is he bringing to the team?
“15 games into the season (and) I haven’t seen anything substantial.”
Arsenal need to move on…
Arteta’s teamsheet dictated what he really thinks of the League Cup because many of the big boys were rested, including Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and captain Martin Odegaard.Bearing that in mind, is it a shock that Arsenal didn’t have a rhythm to their game and were off-colour throughout?
Either way, Arsenal need to move on as soon as possible because they have bigger fish to fry, including pushing for the Premier League title and trying to progress in the Champions League.
Don’t expect many of the starters from the West Ham loss to keep their place in the XI because no one can hold their head up high.
