Indeed, the Gunners are unbeaten in the league after 10 games, and it looks like they are well and truly up to the challenge of dethroning Manchester City.
However, despite Arsenal’s great start to the season, there’s still this prevailing view that Manchester City are the better team, and, to be fair, that’s not a ridiculous view to have. After all, they are the reigning European champions and treble winners.
Arsenal are still seen as being a little way off City’s level, but according to Scott Minto, there’s one signing the Gunners can make that could do a lot towards bridging that gap.
Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Mintp has stated that Ivan Toney is the man Arsenal need to go and get in January, claiming that Arsenal would be really close to City if they did sign the striker.
Toney could bring Arsenal closer to City
Minto gave his verdict on the striker joining the Gunners.
“The Ivan Toney situation came up with Adrian. It is going to be interesting to see if Arsenal are desperate enough to go to the £80m that Brentford would want. That is fascinating, because if Arsenal had Ivan Toney in the side, I tell you what, they’d be really close to City for the Premier League,” Minto said.
Tough to say
Look, we like Ivan Toney as much as anyone else, but this idea that he’s this gamechanger of a striker that will transform Arsenal is a bit of a stretch.
Of course, he’s a talented player, but he’s never played for a top club before, and Gabriel Jesus is a fantastic striker in his own right.
Toney isn’t a gigantic upgrade on Jesus – an upgrade maybe, but only a slight one if so.
It’s hard to say whether or not Minto’s view on this is correct, but we may well find out in January if Toney does make this move to the Emirates.
