‘I'm told’: Fabrizio Romano says Mikel Arteta has been asking Edu to sign £47m player for ages now

Arsenal may well be active in the midfield market in the January transfer window.

The Gunners do appear to be lacking in the midfield right now.

Kai Havertz isn’t working as a midfield player, while keeping Thomas Partey fit is proving to be an almost impossible task at the moment.

Luckily the winter transfer window is just around the corner, and there are a few players that Arsenal could pursue.

One player who has been strongly linked to Arsenal is Ruben Neves, and according to Fabrizio Romano, these links are likely to be due to the fact that Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of the Portuguese midfielder.

Speaking on The Debrief, Romano shared that Arteta is a huge fan of Neves, claiming that he’s been asking Edu about signing the £47m man for years at this point.

Romano shared what he knows about the midfielder and Arsenal.

“I think we have these links because of Mikel Arteta. From what I’m told, Mikel Arteta has always been a fan of Ruben Neves, he’s always appreciated the player since he was at Wolves, he was always one of the midfielders that he has indicated to the directors and to Edu in meetings over the past two or three years, discussing midfielders, the name of Ruben Neves has always been around, but at the moment there are no negotiations,” Romano said.Give Arteta what he wants
Arsenal have been behind Mikel Arteta pretty much ever since he became the Gunners’ manager, and if he’s decided that Neves is the man for him, Arsenal should go and get him.

Arteta knows what’s best for his squad, he’s proven that time and time again, and if he thinks that the former Wolves star could be the difference between winning the league and finishing second, then he’s the man Arsenal have to sign in January.

Of course, getting these sorts of deals over the line is easier said than done, but, when there’s a will, there’s a way, especially when a team as big as Arsenal are involved.
