Jubilations as Brazilian wonderkid passes Arsenal transfer audition in Copa Libertadores final

Fluminense won the Copa Libertadores for the first time in their history after defeating Boca Juniors. The 22-year-old midfielder, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool recently, helped the Brazilian giants defeat their Argentine counterparts 2-1 at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.

Fluminense took the lead at the half-hour mark thanks to German Cano before Boca Juniors eventually equalised late into the second half through Luis Advíncula. The final went to extra-time and Andre went the full distance, with John Kennedy finding the match-winner shortly before the break.

The action didn't stop there though; Kennedy was given his marching orders a few minutes later before the Boca Juniors were also reduced to 10-men after Frank Fabra was issued a red card too. On the biggest night of his career to date, Andre stepped up to the plate and delivered an impressive performance in the heart of midfield.

The Brazil international completed more dribbles than any other player on the night (two) and recorded a 95% pass completion rate. Andre also played more accurate passes than any other player who featured for 45 minutes or more.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp's side had hoped to sign the Fluminense star in the summer after initiating talks with the Brazilian outfit. The report states that a bid for Andre was rebuffed though, with the club focused on winning their first Copa Libertadores title.

Arsenal also 'like the look of Andre', according to 90min, with Mikel Arteta determined to further bolster his midfield options in January. With Martin Odegaard absent for the Gunners' clash against Newcastle United, an over-reliance on Declan Rice and Thomas Partey often nursing a knock, the middle of the pitch could do with some

reinforcement.Speaking ahead of the Copa Libertadores final, Andre revealed that a decision on his future will be made at the end of the Brazilian season on December 6. Speaking to The Guardian, as quoted by the Echo, he said: "I follow the Premier League a lot.

"It’s a very competitive league that demands a lot from players. But today my dream is to live day by day here in Fluminense. I don’t know what will happen in the future; I have a long contract at Fluminense and I really like being here."
