Kai Havertz reveals Chelsea theory on why he's struggled to settle in at Arsenal

Kai Havertz believes his Chelsea past may have made it harder for the Arsenal fans to "trust him" amid his slow start.

The German made a £65m switch across London, swapping blue for red after three years at Stamford Bridge. He was inconsistent at Chelsea and that form has followed him to the Emirates, where he's yet to hit top form and settle in a position.

Havertz's quality is evident but he is yet to establish himself in a specific role and he believes feeling the affection of fans will allow him to play his best. His only goal has come from the spot against Bournemouth but he's adamant he will win the supporters over with his performances.

He told the club's official website: "From outside, Arsenal always looked like a family. That's the feeling I got when playing. And when I joined, that was exactly what it was like, and the staff are really nice too – and that makes life easier for a new player.

"From the first minute that I spoke to Mikel [Arteta] about joining Arsenal, I had this feeling that he respects all of us very much, so that was also a big part of me joining the club. I just felt the togetherness of the club from the players and especially within the fans and the whole club."It's very important to feel trust from the fans. It's always tough when you come from Chelsea, because they are big rivals, so it can take weeks to get some trust from the fans. But goals and good games can help me to get it and I will always give 100 per cent in the games and training sessions. I think they will recognise this as well, which is very important. I'm really happy to be here."

Kai Havertz has failed to perform consistently at Arsenal
Havertz is unlikely to dislodge the club's captain and chief playmaker Martin Odegaard. Arsenal's wide positions are also occupied by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli meaning the German may have to prove himself in a deeper midfield role.

Mikel Arteta has continued to defend the 24-year-old and was convinced earlier this season that he would end up winning the fans over. "Yes, I think so. I think he's done already really good things," said the Spaniard. "Today it was tough in certain moments. He got in great areas and the ball didn't arrive. In a lot of situations, he should have scored a lot of goals already this season. That's the thing that is missing there."
