Neville fires brutal 'defunct' criticism at Premier League amid Everton decision

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has taken aim at the Premier League after they announced that Everton would be receiving a 10-point deduction for breaching Financial Fair Play rules. The Toffees currently sit 19th in the standings, drop down to 19th if docked points, a decision that they intend to appeal.

Now, Neville has spoken out against the sanctions, claiming that the Merseyside-based club will have now completely lost faith in the Premier League. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, the former England international said: "Everton’s trust and faith [in the Premier League] has gone completely.

"The greed and selfishness is out of control - it’s lawless. The Premier League is a defunct organisation because they’ve got 20 clubs all voting with self-interest.

"This has been coming for many years. The Super League clubs that tried to destroy the whole of European football - they were fined a total of £22million, £3.5million for each team, which is an absolute disgrace and a scandal for what they attempted to do, which was the attempted murder of our game."

All eyes are now on Manchester City, who have an FFP investigation of their own ongoing. Back in February, it was announced that the club were facing 115 charges for allegedly breaching FFP regulations, something they vehemently deny.

Pep Guardiola's side are currently locked in a title race with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, sitting one point clear of the former two sides and two points ahead of Spurs.
