A Champions League final winner, Havertz had shown plenty of promise in his career with some huge moments too, but he had struggled for consistency. The switch from blue to red had brought about renewed hopes of realising that potential he was touted with.
A move to a midfield role was on the cards, but after a few struggles he hasn't been able to make that position his own over the early periods of the campaign. A singular goal from the penalty spot was hopeful of adding some confidence before he made a real impact against Brentford.
Ghosting into the back post in the final minute, Havertz nodded home a winner against the Bees to take the side back to the top of the Premier League. With confidence flowing, he added a second in as many games by scoring the opener in the clash with RC Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
It led to some praise from Michael Owen, who said on TNTSports: "It's a bit of a conundrum with him, I don't think he scores enough goals to be a centre-forward, has he got the pace to be a wide man? Maybe ghosts in and plays inside a little bit, there's no doubt about his talent.
"He's got a lovely touch, a lovely way about him. He reminds me a bit of Berbatov, the way he takes the ball and his lovely touch. There's definitely a brilliant player in there."
That comparison to the Manchester United hero Berbatov is nothing new for Havertz, with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel saying similar in the past. "I see a bit of Dennis Bergkamp, Robin Van Persie, [Dimitar] Berbatov kind of player," the current Bayern Munich coach said in 2021.
"He can play in the half position because he has good runs, but also feels free from the nine and creates overload to one side. When I watched him at Leverkusen, I didn’t know that I would coach him, when I watched him at Paris [Saint-Germain], they made him play as a nine which was very interesting."
