Arsenal want to hijack Newcastle United’s move to sign Ruben Neves
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Ruben Neves on numerous occasions in the past when he was in England at Wolves.
The Portuguese midfielder left the Wanderers and joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in the summer for £47 million (Sky Sports).
Over recent weeks, however, Neves has been heavily linked with a return to England, with Newcastle United, whose owners also call the shots at Al-Hilal, heavily linked with a move to sign him.
Now, talkSPORT claim that Arsenal are ready to hijack Newcastle‘s move to sign Neves, with Edu Gaspar said to be a long-term admirer of the talented midfielder.
Newcastle’s hope of signing Neves is already in doubt with Premier League clubs planning to vote in favour of a ban against clubs with the same ownership group loaning players between themselves.

Arsenal are reportedly planning to take advantage of that with a move of their own, but it will be interesting to see if PIF-owned Al-Hilal will be interested in letting him join Newcastle’s direct rivals.
Neves, branded as a ‘sensational‘ player by Gary Neville (Sky Sports, March 18, 2022, 7:29 pm), has a contract with Al-Hilal until the summer of 2026.Neves rejected Arsenal just six months ago
It seemed very clear at the end of last season that Ruben Neves would leave Wolves, and Arsenal and Manchester United were both heavily linked with a move to sign him.
However, in May this year, Spanish outlet Sport revealed that Neves had rejected Mikel Arteta as well as Erik Ten Hag in favour of a move to Barcelona.
A move to the Camp Nou did not materialise in the end, and when Arsenal and Manchester United didn’t go back in for him, the Portugal international decided to accept a move to Saudi Arabia.
Now, in January, it will be interesting to see what Neves will do if he receives an offer from Arsenal.
